Christmas specials - when is too soon?

Okay, since the beginning of November I have seen specials for Christmas on TV (thank you Women's network especially), and have heard of some radio stations being all Christmas music all the time already. The day after Halloween houses went from Halloween decorations to Christmas and started lighting them up at night - the next day!

So my question is - when is it too soon? What about Remembrance Day first? I asked a military neighbour about if it offends them as military personnel if Christmas decorations went up before Remembrance Day and he said no, the urban legend of houses being targeted by military people upset with houses decorated is a myth. Still, for me it seems too soon to decorate. Usually the end of the month of November is time to decorate.

Does it matter though? Not really. When is there NOT a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord? If it's Santa though, then yeah, wait until the end of November!

A time of excitement!

So yes, March 14 is the due date for our newest member of the Robertson family! On Monday it will be week 22! 5 1/2 months! Hard to believe that after 10 years we're getting set to do this again!

The little one is kicking for others to feel now! God has graced us with this little miracle! We can't wait to see them...

Our boys are ready to help too, I have it in writing! We would ask you for prayers for this little miracle! After many miscarriages we have this little one coming! Such an exciting time!

School is back in less than a month... so what did we learn this summer?

So yes, past the half way point of summer, looking forward towards school again for the kids. What did we learn this summer? For me? I love summer and can't stand winter... but also that there is time needed for refreshing, after all Jesus Himself needed to take time away and get refreshed and did so often, so why are we so different that we don't think we can afford to take any time off work or school?

I've hear pastors like Chuck Swindoll say that legalism does a number on us in making us think that enjoying time off is something we should feel guilty about. Ever had that? I have before. The need to be doing something because after all, we don't want to waste time right? Yet time is needed to get refreshed and ready for the next season of life - whatever it is.

So if you're on vacation and starting to feel guilty for enjoying it? Don't. Rebuke the devil and his fallen angels and enjoy it in Jesus' name!

Summer days!

Summer is here and the best ways to cool off are things like swimming, ice cream (one of my personal favourites), air conditioning, my hot tub, and more.

One thing that also happens in summer? Sometimes we can let our walk with God slip because "we're on vacation" so church attendance slips a little, personal quiet time slips a little, then suddenly we wonder why things are a little hectic or out of sorts. Why are the kids fighting? Why am I so edgy? It doesn't happen all at once, little by little when we let things slip they become big problems. Just because it is summer vacation, don't let your walk slip - remember, the Devil doesn't take a vacation from his attacks, so do as 1 Peter 5:8 says, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Have a great summer, have fun, stay safe, and stay alert spiritually while on that vacation!

Father's Day, our anniversary, Graduation day for our boy, and summer...

Wow, since the last post I did a lot has happened. Father's Day came and so did our wedding anniversary - on the same day!

This week our oldest graduates Grade 8...

Lots of events, then summer... a little time to catch up and maybe rest some. Youth is over for the summer, things are a little quieter. School ends Wednesday, life just goes on. In less than a month now, mom will have been gone for 6 months, that is - 6 months of her being with our Lord. I miss her. Always will until I see her again when either Jesus returns or it's my time to go and see her. The writer for Ecclesiastes 3 was right when he said there is a time for every everything, for every activity under the sun.

I haven't written as much this year as a result of personal events like mom passing, then my uncle (mom's brother) this spring. It's been tough to celebrate. yet we have had time to celebrate too with birthdays, our anniversary and now looking forward to our oldest graduating Grade 8.

I'm looking forward to summer - whatever it brings. The warm weather and sun have helped lift things. God has been my strength and my source, my rock and my salvation (of course). Without Him, I could do nothing.

Have a great summer and we'll see you around!

Mother's Day not the same this year

Many know by now, my mom passed away from a short battle with brain cancer on Febraury 8, 2016. We had her internment on April 23, and the memories came flooding back. It was our final farewell to her.

This year will be the first time Mother's Day will not see me calling and/or going to Lindsay to see her and have a meal. It will be a mixed day for me emotionally - excited for my wife who is mother to our kids, yet sorrow at the same time for mom will be missed.

I know she is with Jesus and is most likely helping to party plan for the marriage supper of the Lamb, but I do miss her. She really encapsulated what Proverbs 31:10 - 31 was all about:

10 [b]A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
    and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
    for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
    she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
    where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
    and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
    she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
    and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

I read this at her internment and everyone agreed this is who mom is, and I say is because she is alive with Jesus and I will see her again. So... Happy Mother's Day mom... I love and miss you and will see you again!
